I have no desire to go back to work tomorrow or do homework or go to school.
I just spent 6 days with the most amazing people on a trip/adventure of a lifetime.
On April 25th I abucted myself to the Orange County Invisible Children event, The Rescue. It happened in over 100 cities in 10 countries. over 75,000 people abducted themselves in representation of the 3,000 children who are abducted and forced to be child soldiers for the LRA in Africa. We had this event to raise awareness and get the government involved. In order for that to happen, we needed to be rescued by the media and a mogul (someone of inflence and power like an a-list celeb or polititian) I was lucky enough to get a seat on the LA Rescue Rider bus. The purpose of the buses and vans for rescue riders was that we go to the next city waiting to be rescued an help them get rescued by rallying and marching with them and getting media and a mogul. and we keep going until all the cities in the US are rescued.
So I left the OC event with 2 other RR’s and went to LA by 630pm. We didn’t wanna miss the bus!! So LA was rescued by Kristin Bell and a few other celebs. We got on the bus at 11pm with 30 strangers and drove through the night to San Fransisco. We saw the beautiful sunrise as we reached East Beach where 1,000 people were sleeping, waiting to be rescued. All day long we called and tweeted trying to find a mogul. We rallied on the street and marched to raise awareness to the people of Frisco. At around 5pm, Willie Brown, an ex San Fran mayor (quite famous) came and rescued us and gave a powerful speech.
We then got picked up by our bus driver, Alfredo who was not the most cheerful of people..and we headed down to Vegas. We stopped in Barstow to get off the bus and move to IC vans at 4am Monday. We saw the sunrise on the way to vegas and then greeted about 50 people that included RR’s from san diego and orange county. We rallied infront of the Courthouse with signs, asking people t Honk for Peace in Uganda. I was the queen of the Megaphone and hence, lost my voice and got swollen ankles from being on my feet for over 8 hours. We got rescued then by Mel B (aka Scary Spice) at 6pm on the strip. Then we left Vegas in the bus with Alfredo :( and he drove us to Flagstaff, Arizona where we got a new bus driver (Quincey) thank God!! and headed for Wichita, Kansas. We drove through Texas and stopped in Tulsa, Oklahoma for Denny’s dinner. Wichita was rescued so we headed for the last city to be rescued: Chicago. We arrived in Chicago, Wednesday afternoon and it was an EPIC arrival. We were at Lincoln Park Zoo. and as soon as we saw the abuctees we ran towards them, we all hugged and laughed and cried, everyone was so excited to be there. Later on Mexico City arrived (immune to Swing flu) It was so cool walking among everyone in Chicago and just going up to people, hugging them and just talking and loving one another. We took some group photos. then took the subway to southside Chicago to sleep at Chicago City Church. It was a big gymnasium, over 300 of us in our sleeping bags. We had a dance party to end the night which was a lot of fun. Then Larin’s bus arrived early in the morning and we grew to like 400 the next day. We practiced a choreographed dance and song to “in the name of love” by U2 but changed the lyrics a little bit. Here is us practicing: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4MC0hBf6wtI&feature=player_embedded (im in the middle with a purple plaid shirt on)
Then we marched with our peace signs up around the Harpo studios and offices, performing and cheering, waiting for Oprah to aknowledge us. But she was filming all day and did not come out. I ended up sleeping in chicago in a hotel because I had an early flight home to catch friday morning :( But two of my new best friends were with me. We had a lot of problems haha but it all worked out in the end.
So oprah was rescued while I was flying home. Thank the Lord!!
Times, they are a-changing.
I met THE MOST wonderful people in the entire world this week. I will never forget them and the time we spent together sleeping on the bus, giving head and back massages, talking about our fears an the most illegal thing we ever did haha. and sharing chapstick and eating Denny’s. Drinking emergen-C so we dont get sick (even tho i did) and sharing food when we stopped at gas stations.ect ect the memories go on and on.
This was the most epic road trip because I was with tons of people with the same passion as me yet we were all so different. We learned from each other, pray with each other, laughed with each other, and shared with each other. I have a new found family now. Consisting of people I would have never met otherwise. I love each and every person i met and will someday meet.
TOGETHER WE ARE FREE!!!!
